Location: Torrensville to Darlington

On behalf of our client, Aurecon, our Adelaide and Sydney teams have successfully completed testing for Phase 2 Ground Investigations and are currently undertaking testing for Phase 3 Ground Investigations of the Torrens to Darlington (T2D) North-South Corridor project; the most significant road infrastructure project ever undertaken in South Australia!

Phase 2 of the Ground Investigation program ran from May 2021 to December 2021, and involved close to 200 boreholes and 4.5km of drilling. The Coffey Testing team completed almost 1400 tests on core samples for this phase which included tests such as, Total Suction of Soil, Uniaxial Compressive Strength, Point Load, Brazilian Tensile Strength, Consolidation, Shrink Swell Index, and many more!

Phase 3 Ground Investigations began in early 2022 and will see approximately 200 boreholes drilled focusing primarily on the corridor north of the Anzac Highway. To date, for Phase Three, our team have completed over 200 tests on 166 core samples; this is estimated to be around 15% of the total testing that will be required for Phase 3.

The Torrens to Darlington (T2D) project is the final 10.5km section of the North-South Corridor, and once complete, will deliver 78 kilometres of non-stop motorway between Gawler and Old Noarlunga, slashing 20 minutes of commuting time and bypassing 21 sets of traffic lights. T2D’s design consists of two tunnel sections connected by a lowered highway. The Southern Tunnel will connect Darlington to Anzac Highway, while the Northern Tunnel will connect Torrensville to the north of Anzac Highway. The Tunnel Connector lowered motorway will connect the Southern and Northern Tunnels. Construction is due to commence late 2023 with completion expected by 2030.
