Coffey Testing and Stabilised Pavements of Australia (SPA) have the knowledge, resources, expertise and relationship to be able to assist state governments and local councils to opt for insitu stabilisation for their road rehabilitation projects.
What is Insitu Stabilisation?
Insitu stabilisation, more commonly known as Road Recycling, is the method of using pre-existing road pavement, and then adding lime, cement, bitumen, or mixtures of lime, cement, or by-products of industrial processes and additives and mix those in with the existing pavement materials to recycle and rejuvenate that existing pavement structure.
The end-goal of this process is to ensure that very little material goes off-site, and that we re-use as much of this material as possible of that existing pavement to complete the roads’ rejuvenation process.
Coffey Testing and Roads Rehabilitation
Coffey Testing has a 65-year legacy of delivering construction materials testing services to our clients across Australia.
Through using our knowledge in construction materials testing, our drilling team have the capability to investigate and identify sub-surface conditions. This can be done through advancing boreholes in the pre-existing pavement, identifying their defects and then taking the samples back to our laboratory (either our branch or our annex laboratory) for testing. From here, we can identify if the insitu materials can be stabilised, re-used and modified to last the pavement design life.
Stabilised Pavements of Australia (SPA) and Roads Rehabilitation
For 40 years’, SPA has offered their clients a range of services that focus solely on providing sustainable and innovative pavement services that are proven to be more environmentally conscious than their competitors, and at a fraction of the cost, too.
With their combined experience, resources and skills, the SPA team can offer solutions for all pavement applications.
Their engineering staff can assist in developing suitable investigation and design processes to ensure that they are delivering long-term rehabilitation solutions.
Benefits* of Insitu Stabilisation
Insitu stabilisation methods host far more sustainable benefits in comparison to traditional asphalt solutions that are typically used by state governments and councils to fix dangerous roads across NSW and ACT.
These include but are not limited to; –
- Environmental benefits: Recycling existing materials on site and minimal heavy truck movement leads to reduced CO2 emissions.
- Social benefits: Insitu works are done on site, which means that not only is there minimal excavation and pavement can be tracked immediately, but that there are minimal community disturbances, meaning that roads can be utilised straight after the works are conducted.
- Economic benefits: By opting to use insitu stabilisation over asphalt, clients are saving 40% of the cost that they would be paying for alternative methods due to reusing resources and materials already available.
- Quality benefits: The end-result of this method gives clients a resilient pavement that has been designed to have the equivalent quality level of traditional asphalt roads and pavements.
